The League of American Bicyclists has some wonderful classes on how to ride a bike in traffic.

Last I heard it is about $65 and 2 5 hour sessions, which include some wheels down education.  (About the cost of a tank of gas lately).

These are great people, and if you are scared in traffic, take the class, it could save your life.
